Welcome to Scottish Women's Walking Group, founded in 2017 by Heather Dunnell. With over 30,000 members, our community is all about encouraging women to get outdoors, stay active, and make meaningful connections while exploring Scotland's beautiful landscapes.
About us
We have a vibrant and supportive community of walkers, ranging from beginners to experienced hikers, who love to discover new trails and scenic routes across Scotland. Our walks provide a perfect opportunity to make new friends, relax, and experience Scotland’s breathtaking scenery. So, whether you enjoy a leisurely stroll or an energetic hike, you're sure to find someone like minded in our group to join you on your adventures.
How our group works
SWWG is different to other walking groups, we do not provide guided walks and we have no walk leaders. We are simply women who like to walk and we meet up for walks on the same basis as meeting up with a group of friends. All members in the group can host a walk to suit their own abilities, that way we can each decide when we want to walk and where we want to walk.
Membership is free and open to women who:
● love to walk and meet new people
● have a friendly, positive and supportive attitude
● are willing to join in and contribute to the group
● are looking to feel inspired and motivated and enjoy helping others to feel the same

We are a women-only walking group and whilst we will do all we can to ensure that the members in the group are who they say they are, we cannot guarantee it. Like any online community, people can create fake profiles which can occasionally be hard to detect so please use the same caution when meeting people from the group as you would anywhere else on the internet.
If you go on a walk that you are hosting or have joined via the Scottish Women's Walking Group community, you do so entirely at your own risk.
Scottish Women's Walking Group can not be held responsible for anything that may occur on a walk. Neither can another member of the community, including the host of the walk, be held responsible for anything that happens like injury, loss of property or even death. You are participating in an outdoor activity with all the inherent dangers that come with that including injury and death. You are personally responsible for your own safety at all times. We all also have a duty of care towards those we are walking with and other users of the route we are walking.

We arrange all our walks together via our private groups on Facebook. Joining one of our Facebook groups below is the only way to take part in our walks and to connect with our members.
